My name is Edith Wood, and I am currently pursuing an Education Specialist Degree in Instructional Technology at Kennesaw State University. I began my career as a public librarian, but soon moved into education as a media specialist in Paulding County. I have worked in elementary, middle and high schools and have seen many changes in the field over the years. Presently, I am entering my 7th year as the media specialist at North Paulding High School. I currently serve on the Building Leadership Team, the SACS and School Improvement Committees, the Data Committee, the school Technology Committee, and the County Technology Planning Committee.
When I began my career as an elementary school media specialist I was also the de facto system operator for the school. I very much enjoyed this position and was sorry to be replaced by a full-time technician, even if the position warranted it. My goal in earning my Ed. S. in Instructional Technology is to keep my technology skills fresh and relevant to the times and to regain some of the connection to classroom technology which I have lost. By becoming a technology coach, I see an opportunity to be of value to my teachers by introducing new technologies and teaching them the skills necessary to integrate technology into their instruction to engage students and enhance student learning and achievement. I hope my initiative will lead to other opportunities for leadership within the educational systems of Georgia.
This portfolio documents the course of my studies which have helped me master the International Society for Technology in Education Standards for Coaches, Students, Teachers, and Administrators. It is easily navigated using the tabs at the top of the page. Of particular interest is the Standards tab under which I have included field experiences documenting projects I completed over the course of this program which show how I mastered each standard. I have grown on a personal and professional level through my studies, and feel excited to enhance my current position as a media specialist or, if opportunity arises, move into a new position as an instructional technology coach.
